Marconi

In Haren near Brussels, the new Marconi tram depot was commissioned at the start of 2018. The new MIVB depot will house a whopping 75 trams in the depot part and 10 trams in the maintenance hall. The emphasis during construction was mainly on sustainability and ecology. Staco also took on the manufacturing of gratings and steps for the floors around the maintenance pits as well as the emergency stairs. As a result, the building now boasts more than 1800 m2 of pressed gratings, carried out in RR 40-2 mesh 22x22mm. In short, it was a unique project with many facets, in which multiple forms and applications of gratings have been used.

In order to increase the number of journeys in Brussels, considerable investments were made for the new Marconi tram depot, situated on the border between Ukkel and Voorst. This new MIVB depot will house a whopping 75 trams in the depot part and 10 trams in the maintenance hall. The emphasis during construction was mainly on sustainability and ecology.

At the behest of THV Marconi, more than 1,800m2 of grating floors were manufactured to serve as walking platforms around the maintenance pits. Because safety was of paramount importance, these gratings were produced sufficiently narrowly so as to be able to remove and reinstall the gratings with a simple hook system. 
In this instance, a grating type RR 40-2 mesh 22x in a hot-dip galvanised version was used, whereby 2 different edges were welded on to guarantee extra strength for wide spans.

In addition, all emergency stairs within the depot were equipped with the same type of steps that correspond with the manufactured grating platforms. A total of 5 stair constructions was erected featuring more than 300 hot-dip galvanised steps, type TR 40-2 mesh 22x22.

In short, it was a unique mobility project featuring a variety of forms and applications that easily integrate into the framework of ecology and sustainable building.
